Environmental policy

CaraNation Limited recognises that its caravan transportation and associated business activities can have an impact on the environment. We are committed to conducting our business in an environmentally responsible manner, preventing pollution where reasonably practicable, reducing waste, minimising emissions and making efficient use of energy, fuel, water and other resources.

We will comply with applicable environmental legislation and other relevant requirements, and will continually seek opportunities to improve our environmental performance.

Scope

This policy applies to all employees, drivers, contractors and other persons working on behalf of the company, covering caravan transportation and delivery, company and transport vehicles, loading and unloading, vehicle and equipment maintenance, fuel storage and use, waste, office and depot activities, pollution prevention and environmental emergencies, and procurement of goods and services.

Fuel use and vehicle emissions

As transport is central to our business, we reduce fuel consumption and emissions by planning journeys efficiently, avoiding unnecessary vehicle movements, minimising idling, maintaining vehicles to manufacturers' recommendations, monitoring fuel consumption, selecting fuel-efficient vehicles when replacing our fleet, ensuring vehicles are properly loaded, and encouraging fuel-efficient driving.

Pollution prevention

We take reasonable steps to prevent pollution of land, water and air, with particular attention to diesel and fuel, engine oil and lubricants, hydraulic fluids, cleaning products, batteries, waste materials, and accidental spills or leaks. Vehicles and equipment are inspected and maintained to reduce the likelihood of leaks, and suitable spill-control materials are available where appropriate.

Waste management

We apply the waste hierarchy wherever reasonably practicable (prevent, reuse, recycle, recover, dispose) and use only suitable, appropriately authorised waste contractors, retaining waste transfer documentation where required. Hazardous waste such as waste oils, contaminated materials, batteries or chemicals is managed separately.

Caravan loading, unloading and transport

Drivers and transport personnel avoid unnecessary engine idling, prevent fuel, oil or other substances being released during transport, secure caravans and equipment correctly, avoid unnecessary journeys, keep loading and unloading areas clean, report environmental incidents immediately, and respect local communities by minimising unnecessary noise.

Vehicle and equipment maintenance

Vehicles, trailers and equipment are maintained to manufacturers' requirements, helping to reduce fuel consumption, prevent oil and fluid leaks, reduce exhaust emissions and noise, extend equipment life, and prevent avoidable environmental incidents.

Energy and resource efficiency

We seek to minimise unnecessary consumption of electricity, fuel, water, paper, packaging and other materials, and encourage employees to switch off unnecessary lighting, heating, computers and equipment.

Environmental incidents and emergencies

Incidents such as fuel or oil spills, hydraulic fluid leaks, chemical spills, pollution entering drains or watercourses, and significant smoke or emissions are reported promptly to management, investigated, and followed up with corrective action, contacting the appropriate environmental regulator or emergency service where necessary.

Training, suppliers and continual improvement

Employees and drivers receive environmental information appropriate to their duties, covering fuel-efficient driving, pollution prevention, spill response, waste segregation and the safe handling of fuels, oils and chemicals. Where practicable, preference is given to suppliers and contractors who demonstrate good environmental practices. We continually seek to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, increase recycling, reduce waste, and improve employee environmental awareness.

This policy is reviewed at least annually, or sooner following significant changes to our activities, environmental risks or legislation.

Approved by Stuart Pooley, Managing Director. Effective 15 September 2026, review due 15 September 2027.

Modern slavery statement

Modern slavery is a heinous crime and a morally reprehensible act that deprives a person's liberty and dignity for another person's gain. It is a real problem for millions of people around the world, including many in developed countries, who are being kept and exploited in various forms of slavery. Every company is at risk of being involved in this crime through its own operations and its supply chain.

At CaraNation Ltd, we have a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery and are fully committed to preventing slavery and human trafficking in our operations and supply chain. This statement sets out the steps we have taken to understand potential modern slavery risks related to our business, and to prevent slavery and human trafficking.

Our business and supply chains

CaraNation Ltd specialises in the transportation of static caravans and lodges throughout the UK, and operates exclusively within the UK. We establish a relationship of trust and integrity with all our suppliers, built upon mutually beneficial factors. Our supplier selection and on-boarding procedure includes due diligence of the supplier's reputation, respect for the law, compliance with health, safety and environmental standards, and references.

We have not been made aware of any allegations of human trafficking or slavery activities against any of our suppliers. If we were, we would act immediately against the supplier and report it to the authorities.

Risk assessment

In the past year, we conducted a risk assessment of our supply chain, taking into account:

  • The risk profile of individual countries, based on the Global Slavery Index
  • The business services rendered by suppliers
  • The presence of vulnerable demographic groups
  • News analysis and the insights of labour and human rights groups

This assessment determines our response and the risk controls we implement.

Policies

CaraNation Ltd operates the following policies for identifying and preventing slavery and human trafficking in our operations:

  • Whistleblowing Policy: we encourage all employees, customers and suppliers to report any suspicion of slavery or human trafficking without fear of retaliation.
  • Code of Conduct: clearly states the actions and behaviour expected of employees when representing the business.
  • Purchasing Code: our Purchasing Code and supplier contracts make explicit reference to slavery and human trafficking.

Supplier due diligence

We conduct due diligence on all new suppliers during on-boarding, and on existing suppliers at regular intervals, including assessing risk, auditing health and safety and labour standards, requiring improvements where needed, and sanctioning suppliers that fail to improve. We require all suppliers to attest that they do not use forced, compulsory or slave labour; that employees work voluntarily and are free to leave; that employees receive a proper employment contract; that no deposits are required or salaries withheld; and that passports or work permits are never surrendered as a condition of employment.

Training

We instruct all employees on how to recognise and report modern slavery, including the warning signs (such as unrealistically low prices), how to respond if slavery or trafficking is suspected, and how concerns should be escalated. Employees attest that they will abide by CaraNation Ltd's anti-slavery policy.

Measuring how we're performing

We track key performance indicators including the number of employees who have completed mandatory training, the number of suppliers running an equivalent awareness programme, and the number of reports made by employees indicating awareness of ethical issues.

This statement covers 1 July 2026 to 30 June 2027, and was approved by the board of CaraNation Ltd at the board meeting on 19 June 2026.

Questions we get asked

How much does it cost to move a static caravan?

It depends on distance, the size of the unit, and how easy access is at both ends. That's why we check the sites before we quote. Send us the details and you'll have a fixed price within one working day.

Do you cover my area?

We move loads throughout England, Scotland and Wales from our base in Hull. If you're unsure whether we cover your route, send us the details. We usually can.

Is the caravan insured while it's on your trailer?

Yes. Every move is covered by goods in transit and public liability insurance. Certificates are available on request.

Do I need an escort vehicle?

Most static caravans require an attendant or escort vehicle to accompany the load while in transit (sometimes both). We include escorts in the quote where they are required, along with any police or highway authority notifications.

How much notice do you need?

The more the better, as we generally plan several weeks in advance, particularly for STGO loads that legally require a minimum 5-day notification period, and a standard caravan at a 2-day minimum. That said, we do short-notice and out-of-hours moves regularly, so get in touch if you're in a hurry and we can ask the respective authority whether they will authorise the move.

Do you site the caravan when it arrives?

We'll position the unit as close as we can safely and legally to the required destination. We will only deliver on hard standing ground and are unable to deliver on grass or soft ground. Connection of services and levelling on jacks or blocks is usually handled by the park or your siting contractor. We work closely with many siting teams throughout the UK, so we can put you in touch with companies who specialise in this if required.
